Tulsi Vivah

The history of Tulsi Vivah is rooted in a religious tale of Vrinda, who, unable to bear the separation from her husband, transformed into Sati. Legend has it that a plant named Tulsi sprouted from the ashes of Vrinda, and Lord Vishnu, in honor of her sacrifice, vowed to accept only food with Tulsi and to marry the Shaligram.

The auspicious time for Tulsi Vivah typically aligns with the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, starting at 11:03 pm on the Ekadashi date of Kartik month and ending at 9 pm on November 23rd. Devotees celebrate this event during the evening puja, which spans from 6:50 pm to 8:09 pm.

Tulsi Vivah ceremonies often occur on Dwadashi Tithi of Kartik month. This year, Dwadashi Tithi starts on November 23rd at 9:01 pm and concludes on November 24th at 7:06 pm. The auspicious time of Pradosh Kaal falls between 5:25 pm and 6:04 pm on this day.

For the Tulsi marriage ceremony, gather essential materials such as turmeric, Shaligram, Ganeshji idol, Vishnuji idol, batasha, fruits, flowers, incense-lamp, turmeric, hawan material, sugarcane, red chunari, Akshat, roli, kumkum, sesame seeds, ghee, amla, sweets, and the Tulsi plant.

On the day of Tulsi Vivah, wake up early, bathe, and wear clean clothes. Offer water to the Tulsi plant. Those performing Kanyadaan should observe a fast. The marriage ceremony takes place during the Pradosh period in the evening. Set up a small pedestal for the basil plant and create a sugarcane pavilion on a pot. Install Shaligram ji at the second post and place the urn nearby.

During the ceremony, make Swastika on the Kalash and, if possible, create Rangoli near the Tulsi pot. Light a ghee lamp in front of the Tulsi plant and sprinkle Ganga water with flowers on Lord Tulsi and Shaligram. Apply Roli to Tulsi Mata and sandalwood tilak to Shaligram ji. Offer a red chunari to the basil plant and present makeup material.

Bathe Lord Shaligram with Panchamrit and offer yellow clothes. Apply turmeric to Tulsi and Shaligram ji. Take Shaligram ji in hand and circle the Tulsi plant seven times; it is believed that only a man should lift the post of Shaligram Ji. Perform all rituals with reverence, including the aarti of Tulsi Mata and Shaligram ji.

Upon completing the marriage ceremony, offer bhog to them and distribute prasad among the people.
